Stella's parents arrived in England in 1961 and worked extremely hard owning several successful fish & chip shops in and around the local area. Stella learned from them to gain the skills and hardworking ethics to strive in anything she set her mind to.
After 20 years of working as a community champion at a well-known supermarket, Stella Nicolaou decided to take the inspiration she had gained from her parents and go into business herself. Her love for her Greek Cypriot heritage had her inspired to open a Greek Deli. As the nearest was in Camberwell and North London, this idea meant Stellas was able to answer the gap in the market for a Greek Deli in the heart of Old Coulsdon.
Her love for food, especially from her Greek Cypriot roots, gave her the chance to embed a place to go get fresh Greek Cypriot ingredients, made on-site, as well as sourcing much loved Greek & Cypriot products to the local community. In December 2018 Stella's Emporium Greek Deli & Gift Shop was born.
Since the opening of Stella's Emporium Greek Deli & Gift Shop the Deli had gone from strength to strength with many local regular customers all coming in to taste the delights on offer from freshly made deli sandwiches, and Greek bread, delectable cakes & savouries such as Baklava and also mouthwatering salads.
All made even more important in 2020 when the covid pandemic hit.
Stella's became a hub for the local community adding essentials to the list of products stocked such as flour, eggs, fruit & veg on top of the amazing Greek & Cypriot products already on offer, much that has remained since.
It became a place not only to get something to eat but for somewhere to talk, providing a listening post to customers that felt alone and needed someone to talk to pass their time. Being able to remain open during this time meant our regular customers and new customers were able to have somewhere to go and this has helped with the continued success of Stella's Emporium.
Stella's Emporium continues to grow with more and more people discovering the little Greek gem in the heart of Old Coulsdon. You are greeted with a warm Cypriot welcome every time you visit for your hot & cold drinks, Salads, Sandwiches, Pastries, Savouries, Frozen Food, Fresh Greek Bread, Dairy products, Platters, and more.
